Contracting

Drawing on our directors’ and members’ extensive experience of habitat management on sensitive sites in the UK and across Europe, EuCAN has the expertise to undertake conservation management contracts ranging from wildlife gardens to landscape-scale habitat restoration projects. We are using this commercial work to support our conservation projects and to give our trainees further experience.

2013 – 2015 – we successfully completed several habitat management contracts for Butterfly Conservation on Mount Fancy Farm reserve in Somerset. We worked with 5 or 6 drawn from a team of 8 working with chainsaws and brushcutters. The proceeds will help to fund our training schemes and placements. More about this on the News item and here .

We have carried out habitat management work for the Higher Level Stewardship schemes for several landowners – on Rooksmoor near Kings Stag, White Horse Hill above Osmington, and on Stratford Tony Downs near Salisbury, and have worked with Natural England on the Himalayan Balsam Eradication Programme in west Dorset, for Dorset County Council on the land adjacent to Beaminster Tunnel and for Wessex Water on their reservoirs at Sutton Bingham, Durleigh and Clatworthy. Our contract work not only brings benefit to the natural habitats we are working on, they also provide our contractors and trainees with valuable experience and paid work. And any profits made are used to help fund our visits to our European partners.
