Another great EuCAN Residential weekend!

We held our annual getaway weekend on Exmoor this year – staying for the weekend of June 29th to July 1st at Cloud Farm near Malmsmead on the northern edge of Exmoor.

This part of Exmoor is stunning and very rich in wildlife. We set up a moth trap on the first night we were there – click here for a list of the 60 species caught (including Triple-spotted Clay and Northern Spinach), spent several happy hours walking up the valley above the campsite (nice views of Whinchat and Redstart families), then visited the Heddon Valley west of Lynton to look for High-Brown Fritillaries with Megan Lowe who works for Butterfly Conservation with their All the Moor Butterflies project.  The butterfly list is attached here.

On the Sunday we visited the National Trust farm at Kipscombe near Countisbury guided by Josey Field. Sadly the weather deteriorated and we ended up having a very wet lunch before setting off for home. Ironically that was the last rain anyone round here can remember for this summer!

As a result of the visit to Kipscombe, we are hoping to team up with the National Trust to set up some surveying weekends and residential management tasks on the farm in the coming year.
