EuCAN Somerset and Milverton Volunteers at Otterhead Lakes

The EuCAN Somerset volunteers joined forces with the EuCAN Milverton group and the Neroche Conservation Volunteers for a day at the beautiful Otterhead Lakes just south of Taunton. It was a perfect winter day- there were Teal and Little Grebes calling from the lakes and signs of Beaver activity in the sallow trees. We even saw Frog spawn. Our aim was to continue to clear laurel and sallow trees from an ancient leat so that it can be used to carry water to a hydroelectric turbine which will generate electricity for the coachhouse and other outbuildings, the remnants of the large house which was demolished in the 1950’s. We made excellent progress and will be going back for more on Tuesday March 13th – everyone is very welcome to join us! Go to our Flickr site to see photos from the day.
